It felt like a thousand wild thoughts were racing through her mind.
Mavis swallowed hard and slowly lowered her gaze under Nathaniel's direct stare, avoiding eye contact. Not knowing what to say, she turned her back to Nathaniel and lay down.
This was her tacit agreement to his suggestion of leaving later that night after resting.
Though they were sharing the same bed, it felt like there was an invisible barrier between them, creating an air of unfamiliarity and distance.
Mavis curled up on the edge of the bed. The pillow was soft, and the pure white sheets carried a faint, fresh scent. The high-quality memory foam mattress helped her quickly relax her entire body, letting go of her defenses.
She was so tired, and the bed was so comfortable that she quickly drifted off to sleep.
During this time, Nathaniel quietly leaned against the headboard, working on his tablet without any intention of disturbing her. Knowing how tired she was and that she did not fully trust him yet, he was determined to give her all the sense of security and personal space she needed.
Suddenly, a message notification chimed on his phone.
Nathaniel opened his tablet and chuckled softly after reading the message.
The screen displayed the name [Lionel Jenkins] with a small dog emoji next to it.
[Lionel: How's it going? Elliot's old trick works well to help you win Mavis back, right?]
[Nathaniel: It's alright.]
[Lionel: I've helped you out big time. Don't you think you should show some appreciation?]
[Nathaniel: I heard Jacintha has her eye on that blue sapphire and diamond necklace from the ANA Jewelry Gala auction. How about I buy it, and you can present it to her?]
[Lionel: That set isn't cheap. It's over a hundred million. It's a one-of-a-kind collector's piece. Why are you suddenly being so generous with me?]
Nathaniel frowned, finding this message odd no matter how he looked at it.
What did Lionel mean by suddenly being so generous to him?
It sounded like they were a couple, and Nathaniel had been neglecting him.
[Nathaniel: When has the head of the Nicholls family ever been stingy? If you don't want it, forget it.]
[Lionel: Of course I want it! You're loaded, Mr. Philanthropist. I'll gladly accept!]

The readers' comments on the novel: Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson)
The novel is too abusive it spoils the joy of reading it. I hate the punishment part between sheena and Eliot....
