"I never regarded you as just a work partner. In fact, you're more like a brother, like my closest friend. From the moment you pulled me out of that dark place years ago, I gave you my complete trust. I never imagined you'd hurt Callum like this," Mavis said.
Evan's eyes reddened as tears fell. "But I never saw you as just a friend. Mae, you won my heart long ago, and I want to be with you. I'm sorry, Mae. I never meant to hurt you or make you sad. I just wanted to keep you by my side."
Nathaniel narrowed his eyes sharply and stepped forward, wrapping his arm around Mavis' shoulders in a silent claim of ownership.
Mavis did not resist his touch. She sighed and replied to Evan, "Considering you once helped me, saved me, and now you're paralyzed, which is karma, I suppose I'll plead to keep you out of prison. But I don't want you here in Froania anymore."
"Mae!"
"Also, I'll have you removed from the company. You'll get all the compensation you're due, and we'll treat your injury as work-related, so the company will cover your medical expenses, settling any debt for your care over the years. We won't see each other again. From now on, we're strangers."
Each word she spoke was distancing herself from him, and Evan felt increasingly uncomfortable as he listened.
He looked at her and asked, "I can't move right now. How am I supposed to get back to Vraeyce? Why don't I stay until I recover, then go back on my own?"
This request was not unreasonable, and Mavis likely would not have refused under normal circumstances. However, Nathaniel was not about to let Evan have his way.
Before Mavis could respond, he quickly chimed in, "That won't be necessary. I'll arrange a private jet and staff to take you to the Nicholls family plane. We'll provide a professional medical team to ensure you have no issues during the journey and arrive safely in Vraeyce."
The phrase "money talks" could not have been more fitting for him.
"There's no need for the trouble," Evan said sadly, "The doctors and nurses here are familiar with my condition and can treat me better. If I go back, no one will take care of me."
Dylan stood nearby, feeling awkward. He should have been speaking up for Evan, but after observing and listening for a while, he realized Evan had messed up by going after Callum. Hence, he had no reason to continue supporting Evan.

The readers' comments on the novel: Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson)
The novel is too abusive it spoils the joy of reading it. I hate the punishment part between sheena and Eliot....
