Mavis understood what he meant and bit her lip.
"I know my place."
She looked out the window, feeling a bit bitter.
What was she expecting?
Did she actually believe he wanted to have a child with her?
Or that she could stay by his side forever?
When their agreed time was up, they would part ways, never to cross paths again.
Mavis's heart ached at the thought of this.
They drove the rest of the way in silence, and the temperature in the car seemed to drop drastically.
Feeling cold, Mavis wrapped her coat tighter around herself and rubbed her hands together, trying to find some warmth.
When they reached the airport, Nathaniel parked the car and got out to make a phone call.
His tall, lean figure and sharp, elegant profile stood out, his nose slightly red from the cold wind.
Mavis smiled bitterly, feeling a surge of inexplicable sadness.
A sudden knock on the car window startled her, bringing her back from her reverie.
Mavis rolled down the window and looked at him with wide, innocent eyes.
"What's the matter?"
"Grandma will be out soon. Come with me."
Mavis nodded and got out of the car, obediently following behind him.
Suddenly, Nathaniel stopped, and Mavis bumped into his back.
"Come here."
His commanding tone made her uncomfortable, but she knew she could not afford to be difficult as they were here to pick up Mildred.

The readers' comments on the novel: Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson)
The novel is too abusive it spoils the joy of reading it. I hate the punishment part between sheena and Eliot....
